Police seize drugs, cash during raid on
Rebels OMCG clubhouse - Police on
Sydney’s Lower North Shore have raided a
clubhouse of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle
Gang (OMCG) allegedly seizing a substantial
quantity of drugs and cash.
General duties officers attached to North
Shore Local Area Command stopped a Toyota
Hilux utility on Carlotta Street, Artarmon,
about 8.20pm yesterday (Saturday 11 July),
and spoke with the 33-year-old male driver.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly
uncovered a quantity of drugs, a small
amount of powder substance, an ‘Ice’ pipe
and an axe, which was located underneath the
driver’s seat.
The man was arrested and taken to Chatswood
Police Station and questioned before being
charged with a number of drug offences. He
was refused bail to appear in Parramatta
Bail Court today.
As a result of follow up inquiries, local
police - assisted by officers from the
neighbouring Harbourside LAC, Public Order
and Riot Squad, and Dog Unit – executed a
search warrant on a building in Carlotta
Street, Artarmon, about 2.40am today.
The property is allegedly used as the
clubhouse of the North Sydney chapter of the
Rebels OMCG.
Police searched the premises and 78 people
who were on scene at the time. Officers
allegedly seized quantities of various
drugs, including almost 200 ecstasy tablets,
cocaine, marijuana, LSD and amphetamines, as
well as prescription drugs. Approximately
$7,800 cash was also located.
Four men, aged between 21 and 30, were
subsequently issued notices to appear in
court at a later date on drug possession
matters. A fifth man, aged 31, was ordered
to appear in court on a date to be fixed for
the offence of hindering a police officer in
the execution of their duty.
Investigations by local detectives are
continuing and police haven’t ruled out
laying further charges.
Pickup kills 3 at Corsicana High School
motorcycle fundraiser -
Dallas Morning News -
A Corsicana High School teacher and her
father were among three people killed in
Navarro County on Saturday morning after a
pickup swerved head-on into a group of
motorcyclists on a ride benefiting the
school's dance team. Three others were
injured.
Teacher Leslie Tahamia McCluney, 34, her
father, Terry Paul Nelson, 61, and real
estate agent David Edmond Coley, 54, all of
Corsicana, died at the scene.
"Leslie was a very good science teacher,"
Corsicana schools Superintendent Don Denbow
said in Saturday's online edition of the
Corsicana Daily Sun. "She was one of those
special people who could connect with her
students and get the most out of them."
A Department of Public Safety spokesman said
54-year-old William Jack Lindsey Jr. was
driving a 1993 Ford pickup east on FM709
outside Corsicana when he entered the
westbound lanes and collided head-on with
the Harley-Davidson motorcycles driven by
Coley and Nelson. McCluney was a passenger
on Nelson's motorcycle. It was unclear what
caused Lindsey to swerve into the
motorcyclists.
Lindsey's truck overturned after the initial
collisions, authorities said. Motorcyclist
Robert Gonzales, 54, of Waco swerved and
avoided a collision with the truck. Leslie
Casey, 54, of Waco also swerved but struck
the overturned pickup.
Lindsey was treated and released from
Parkland Memorial Hospital on Saturday.
Authorities said Saturday that Gonzales was
listed in fair condition at Parkland and
Casey was listed in fair condition at Baylor
University Medical Center at Dallas.
The DPS spokesman said that more than 30
motorcycles were making a 90-mile charity
run when the accident occurred about 9:25
a.m.
Former Corsicana Police Chief G.M. Cox was
among the riders in Saturday's event. He
said he was about "a minute or so" behind
the group of cyclists who were struck.
"I don't think there was anything they could
have done to avoid the collision," Cox said.
"There are some situations that you cannot
drive defensively for."
State troopers are investigating the
accident.

report.

Memorial bike run 'a day to remember'
- Middletown
Journal - MONROE — Bob Bryant beat
prostate cancer.
“After that,” his close friend Scott Weaver
said, “we thought he was home free.”
But, three weeks after being cleared of
cancer, on Sept. 6, 2003, Bryant, riding his
motorcycle for charity — one of his greatest
passions — was killed when a 21-year-old
Hamilton woman turned in front of him,
striking the front tire of his motorcycle at
the intersection of Ohio 4 and Camelot Drive
in Fairfield.
He was thrown about 20 feet, according to
police.
Weaver, 37, of Middletown, was riding in the
lane next to Bryant. He still has visions of
the deadly accident scene.
“It’s been super hard,” Weaver said. “Over
the years, it’s gotten easier, but you never
forget the person. He was one of those guys
who knew no stranger. He always tried to
help other people.”
Weaver helps keep Bryant’s memory alive by
organizing the Bob Bryant Memorial Run, now
in its seventh year. The first year,
proceeds from the event were donated to the
Bryant family, and every year since, a
donation has been made to prostate cancer
research, Weaver said.
Weaver called the memorial run “a day to
remember” Bryant and a way to raise funds
for a worthy cause.
Bryant, 57, retired from Armco Research in
1999 after 35 years. He was co-owner of the
Field Sports Arena in Monroe.
Registration for the ride begins at 10 a.m.
Saturday, July 18, at the arena, 215
American Way, and the motorcycles will leave
at noon. They will ride through Preble
County and return to the arena.
Entertainment will be provided by the
Fabulous Dance Doctors.
Cost of the event is $20 for a rider, $25
for a couple, and the ticket includes a
lapel pin, food and door prizes.
Once again, the pin will be a miniature ice
cream cone in honor of Bryant, never known
to turn down the dessert, Weaver said.
7th Annual Thunder Ride to Cure Diabetes
- WKBT - The
roar of motorcycle engines filled the area
Saturday to help raise money for a group of
children in need.
The 7th annual Thunder Ride to Cure Diabetes
set off to raise money to help support
children who have been diagnosed with
diabetes.
The ride started out in Onalaska, and the
riders traveled across the river into
Minnesota before coming back to La Crosse to
finish at the Oktoberfest grounds.
Organizers say the thunder ride has grown
tremendously over the last 7 years.
Thunder Ride Founder John Haverty says, "We
had 150 riders and made 5800 dollars and
thought we did pretty well, last year we had
575 riders and made 100,000 dollars so in a
short span of time, although the need has
grown, so has the thunder ride."
More than 500 participants took part in the
ride.
The money raised will go to the medical
foundations of Gundersen Lutheran and
Franciscan Skemp to help support children
with Diabetes.
